When I turned my side-hustle into a full time entr When I turned my side-hustle into a full time entrepreneurial journey I wasn’t quite sure how it was going to work. What I DID know is that I was going to figure it out along the way - because I’m driven (and stubborn?) like that (and also because I was over having someone else tell me when I could take a lunch break or travel the world!)

2 years ago, after feeling a little lonely and burnt out, I joined the @profitablewebdesigner. I knew I needed to make some changes in my business and after confirming that @shannonlmattern wasn’t going to make me dance on Instagram, I hopped on what would be the first of many weekly calls with a group of folks who just seem to get it.

Last week, I got to celebrate 5 years of HeyKaila Media with 13 beautiful people on a beautiful beach and found out that they don’t just get IT, they actually get ME. I felt seen and understood, vulnerable and uncomfortable (you know, growth 🌱), loved, appreciated and grateful for every moment with them.

Mostly I just feel like I’m not on a deserted island anymore. I have an island family, who are always in my corner and we do fun things together - like buy boats, ride bikes and eat beaver nuggets. 🚤 🚲 🦫

Find your people and let them hold space for you. Independence does not equal solitude. You don’t have to go it alone. 💕🪶
Feeling so honoured to have been a part of this mo Feeling so honoured to have been a part of this most recent project! After the loss of her daughter Kailynn in 2018, Sandi began passionately advocating for distracted driving awareness through public speaking events.

Collaborating on strategy, branding and copywriting, we created a website aimed at raising awareness surrounding her new venture and providing educational resources to visitors.

With the wild number of times we pick up our phones every day (Have you ever looked at your screen time data? Like I said….WILD!), I think you would agree that what Sandi has to say is something we all need to hear. I encourage you to take a few minutes to visit sandralarose.ca (http://sandralarose.ca). Read her story, remind yourself of the potential consequences of driving while distracted, and learn about the ways in which you can make a difference.

Sandi is my favourite type of client - a passionate, dream-chasing entrepreneur - and I’m looking forward to cheering her on as she works towards spreading her message across the world!

If you’re dreaming about the difference YOU can make with your own project and are interested to see how I can support you, please book a time in my calendar for a chat via the link in my bio.

I’m back on Canadian soil. I’m back in the tra I’m back on Canadian soil. I’m back in the trailer. And although my spring cleaning now involves much less square footage, it’s still a nuisance and I’m ready for it to all be done so I can get back outside!

How’s your spring cleaning going? Or more importantly, how’s your WEBSITE spring cleaning going? Yep, if that wasn’t already a thing - I’m making it one. Because if I’m fixated on getting into the sunshine, I’m betting there’s a few of you who feel the same, and getting your website freshened up is just one more thing standing in your way.

I’ve been working away on a new offering to help conquer the laundry lists of to-dos that people commonly land in my inbox requesting. (More info coming soon!)

Things like..

🌱 Adding new project photos to gallery
🌱 Updating social media links

🌱 Linking online schedular in navigation
🌱 Adding sign up for newsletter
🌱 Creating newsletter template
🌱 Creating a landing/work with me page
🌱 Adding new products to store

If you’re list looks anything like the above and you’d be interested in test driving my new service, please DM me so I can give you the details and determine if you would be a good fit!

I would love to help you tackle your spring cleaning, mostly because it’s MUCH more fun than mine! :p

Bicycle beer crawls, learning new uke songs by the fire, reigniting our crib game rivalries…*sigh* I’m PUMPED to be spending the summer back in the prairies.

Mine is Chelsey. ⠀
⠀
She’s also the one who responds to a meeting request with a ‘When works for you? I know you’re busy!’ when she’s feeding a babe and chasing a toddler, while working through her mat leave on the bleachers at one of the 4 baseball games she’s been to this week, at the same time her and her partner launch a new business location (peep @birminghamsvodkaalehouse in the North!).⠀
⠀
Anyways, my point is, she’s basically superwoman. October is Women’s Small Business month and I can’t think of another human who has made a bigger impact on my own small business. If you own a small biz too, then you know that when you’re in it, like REALLY in it, it makes such a difference to have a fellow entrepreneur only a text away. They just GET IT. Her and her badass team at @barkdesignstudio are my faves in a who-runs-the-world-girls type of way. 💪🏼⠀
⠀
Anyone else have a small business partner in crime? Tag em to remind them how bomb they are! 💣⠀
⠀
*Also, if you know Chels personally - tell me you can’t hear her cute giggle coming right out of this photo!⠀

Have you heard of the Community Computers program? Have you heard of the Community Computers program?⠀
⠀
Back in the fall, when I was purging our place of ‘things’, I came to a realization: I was finally going to be forced to deal with the neat little pile of limbo items underneath my desk. You have these too, right? The stuff set aside to get rid of that requires an intermediary step which you just ain’t got time for? Well we definitely did and two of the items in this pile were our old laptops. We knew we wanted to donate our computers but was that even a thing in YQR? And, even if it was a thing, how do we make 100% sure that the next user didn’t have access to any of our sensitive information?⠀
⠀
Enter Community Computers Regina. They accept your old computers, fix them up if required, scrub them of data, and donate them to those in need.⠀
⠀
Our visit to @rescuetechregina (the donation drop off) was enjoyable in itself. You can tell that Robert, the owner of the shop and creator of the program, is very knowledgeable when it comes to tech but also cares so deeply about giving back. Community Computers started after Robert overheard a mother in his shop explain to her kids that buying a computer meant that they wouldn’t have money left over for shoes. He knew that something had to be done and 12 years later, with more kids now than ever taking online classes, there is still very much a need for this program in our city. He mentioned that with COVID, there are less commercial businesses able to donate so the supply is decreasing while the demand is increasing very rapidly.⠀
⠀
I am incredibly privileged and now that I make my living with a screen and a keyboard, it has become much more apparent what a change in someone’s situation a donation like this could make. So if you happen to have a laptop, desktop, or monitor sitting around, collecting dust, please consider donating them. They are much more useful in someone’s hands than in the landfill. More information can be found at communitycomputers.ca or via @rescuetechregina on Facebook.
october & november 2020⠀⠀ ⠀⠀ two of the mo october & november 2020⠀⠀
⠀⠀
two of the most starkly different months I’ve probably had in my life. weeks of touching every single ‘thing’ that we owned to evaluate whether we could picture it’s new permanent home in a 16 foot trailer. reminiscing on the many memories made within our four walls and imagining how the ones who came after us would turn it into their own. celebrating my birthday and the end of a chapter with the ones I love the most.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
—> the last time I’d sit and lovingly watch @furbabybean play in grandma’s poppies and the last greenery I’d collect out of our beloved backyard garden⠀⠀
—> the last few moments I would have with my plant babies; some of which date back to life even before YQR, over a decade ago⠀⠀
—> the last time I’d make art in our shared office and the last puzzle piece we’d place in our newly renovated kitchen⠀⠀
—> the last trip home to manitoba I’d make for a while, somehow fortunately timed before lockdown became really real again⠀⠀
⠀⠀
buh bye broder, hello revy 👋🏼 - our first home base as nomads.⠀⠀
⠀⠀
—> the first turn we’d take past the watchful eye of our campground security gaurd, sir smokey bear 🐻⠀⠀
—> the first time we’d skirt a trailer, shovel our roof, and figure out how to manage tiny living humidity⠀⠀
—> the first of many meals to come in our instant pot⠀⠀
—> the first time we’d play in snow that hid bright green grass underneath⠀⠀
—> the first new friends we’d make in a weird, isolated and socially distanced world ⠀⠀
—> the first season ski passes we’d buy & our first gondola ride up the hill to ring in the beginning of a *hopeful* full season of boarding⠀⠀

lasts: not nearly as sad when you understand that they’re really just making room for some pretty great firsts!⠀
